Laura Roosenboom

Doctoral Candidate

Research profile

Laura Roosenboom is a PhD candidate in the Immunoengineering group under the supervision of Dr. Jurjen Tel. Her research aims to elucidate heterogeneity in immune cell populations using a droplet-based microfluidic approach. In particular, Laura focuses on the interferon type I mediated responses of cells obtained from patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis to increase our understanding of the disease.
I believe that a scientist’s greatest asset is their childlike curiosity that encourages them to always ask questions.

Academic background

Laura Roosenboom grew up in Gennep and obtained her bachelor’s degree in “Medical Biology” at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. At the same institution, she obtained her master’s degree in “Medical Epigenomics”. During her studies, Laura contributed to several research projects. In the department of Molecular Biology at the Radboud Institute of Molecular Life Sciences, she identified proteins that bind to ADP-ribose units using an affinity enrichment approach. In the Department of Biophysical Chemistry of the Radboud University, she studied aspects of the mRNA structure. During her time as a PhD candidate, Laura wants to increase her knowledge of immunology and understand processes involved in auto-immune diseases.
